The nation’s premier law enforcement agency picked the Ronald Reagan Building as its new home. Another tenant, EPA, should be out within months.

The FBI is taking space at the Ronald Reagan Building while EPA packs up as President Donald Trump’s game of musical chairs for federal office space plays out in the nation’s capital.

In a joint announcement Tuesday, the FBI and the General Services Administration said the downtown Washington building was selected as the new headquarters for the nation’s premier law enforcement agency. It is only a few blocks down Pennsylvania Avenue from the FBI’s current location, the J. Edgar Hoover Building, which is struggling with an aging water system and crumbling concrete.

FBI and GSA officials touted the cost savings of the move, which Maryland lawmakers said they will challenge. In 2023, Greenbelt, Maryland, was picked for the bureau’s new campus after a long and contentious process.

“This is a historic moment for the FBI,” said FBI Director Kash Patel in a statement. “Moving to the Ronald Reagan Building is the most cost effective and resource efficient way to carry out our mission to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution.”
