Three of the Forest Service’s nine regional foresters have retired this year, adding to the uncertainty surrounding workforce reductions at the agency.

The most recent to announce their departures are Leanne Marten in the Northern Region, which covers parts of five states from Idaho to the Dakotas, and Jennifer Eberlien in the Pacific Southwest Region, covering Califorinia.

In February, regional forester Mary Farnsworth in the Intermountain Region announced her retirement, days before mass firings hit around 3,000 Forest Service employees.

POLITICO’s E&E News viewed an email that Eberlien shared announcing their retirements. Farnsworth’s departure was reported in the Jackson Hole News & Guide and confirmed by a Forest Service employee who wasn’t authorized to speak with reporters and also confirmed Marten’s retirement reported earlier in the online site The Hotshot Wake Up.
