A key player in drafting the Biden administration’s sweeping climate change law has joined a new Democratic think tank that’s urging the left to rethink its climate messaging.
Luke Bassett — who helped draft the Inflation Reduction Act as an aide to then-Sen. Joe Manchin (I-W.Va.) and then worked to implement the law from the Biden Treasury Department — is director of the energy security project at the Searchlight Institute, the think tank announced.
Bassett joins the Democratic think tank founded earlier this year by Adam Jentleson, former chief of staff to Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) and as deputy chief of staff to then-Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
“Few people have shaped the federal government’s impact in securing America’s clean energy future more than Luke,” Jentleson said in a statement. “He has been — and will continue to be — at the forefront of major legislative victories in Congress and clean energy deployment across the country.”
