The agency also chose an employee of Canadian-based renewable energy giant Brookfield Renewable to lead its grid deployment office.

The Department of Energy has tapped two officials to lead the agency’s technology transitions office and grid deployment office.

Anthony Pugliese is now chief commercialization officer and director of the Office of Technology Transitions at DOE, he confirmed in a LinkedIn post.

Pugliese was previously chief of staff under former FERC Chairs Neil Chatterjee and Kevin McIntyre, who served under the previous Trump administration. Pugliese resigned from the agency in 2019 following political comments viewed as improper for his role at the independent agency, including implications that he was working with DOE on a plan to bail out coal and nuclear power plants — a proposal later rejected by FERC regulators.

After Pugliese left the commission, he went to lobbying firm Envision Strategy, where he has been for the past six years.
