Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is in discussions about taking on an “advisory role” at the powerful Westlands Water District in central California.

McCarthy, who was ousted from his role as speaker in October 2023, has held informal conversations with the Rhode Island-sized water district, Westlands confirmed. The former Republican lawmaker from California left Congress in late 2023.

The Sacramento Bee first reported McCarthy’s meetings with the water district on Wednesday, citing both Westlands and an unnamed source familiar with McCarthy’s plans. McCarthy could not immediately be reached for comment.
