Tony Irish will support legal and investigatory work by the organization that advocates for federal employees at energy and environmental agencies.

A longtime Interior Department attorney has landed at Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility.

Tony Irish, who served over 20 years at Interior, has joined the watchdog group as a senior counsel, PEER announced Tuesday. He will support legal and investigatory work by the organization, which frequently challenges the Trump administration and advocates for federal employees at energy and environmental agencies.

Tim Whitehouse, the group’s executive director, said in a statement that Irish “brings an unmatched understanding of how the Department of the Interior operates from the inside.”

“His expertise in transparency laws and agency decision-making will be critical as PEER continues to push for accountability and ensure that public resources are managed in the public interest,” Whitehouse said.
