Former Rep. Jeff Duncan, one of Congress’ biggest boosters of nuclear energy in recent years, is joining the board of a company that specializes in developing advanced reactors.

The South Carolina Republican retired from Congress last year and is now taking his legislative expertise to Nuclearis Energy, a New Mexico-based company dedicated to building “sustainable and massively scalable” small modular reactors.

“I’m excited to join Nuclearis at this time when energy demand is skyrocketing and the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) will play a vital role in bringing clean energy to companies and households across our country,” Duncan said in a statement shared by the company.

Duncan was elected in 2010 and retired at the end of last year. He served on the Energy and Commerce Committee and chaired what was then called the Energy, Climate and Grid Security Subcommittee.
