John Sneed has returned to the Energy Department to head the Loan Programs Office, according to three people familiar with the move who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Sneed’s return installs a familiar face to the top of the office that grew in significance under former President Joe Biden, but which faces an uncertain future under President Donald Trump.

Sneed formerly served as executive director of the office during the first Trump administration, as well as chief of staff to former Energy Secretary Rick Perry. He is also a former executive director of the Texas State Preservation Board.
