An alumna of two Republican administrations will lead the Western Energy Alliance as its new president, the oil and gas trade group announced Wednesday.

Melissa Simpson is set to join the Denver-based association on April 16, heading to the Western Energy Alliance from energy company Sempra. Simpson was picked to lead the group following President Donald Trump’s nomination of Kathleen Sgamma — the alliance’s current president — to be the head of the Interior Department’s Bureau of Land Management.

Sgamma lauded the pick in a news release, saying the group “won’t skip a beat” with Simpson, who is Sempra’s director of global government affairs.

“With my confirmation hearing coming soon, we should have plenty of time for crossover before I leave the Alliance in such good hands,” Sgamma said in a statement.
