A House vote to overturn a Biden administration tailpipe rule is giving Republicans an opening against Elissa Slotkin.

Democrat Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, locked in a tight race for an open Senate seat, is facing attacks from Republicans and the oil industry over her stance on electric vehicles.

Those groups are accusing Slotkin of hypocrisy, noting that her own campaign ad criticizing EV mandates doesn’t seem to jibe with her recent vote against a measure that would overturn a Biden administration rule on tailpipe emissions.

In the ad, released last week, Slotkin proclaims that “no one’s going to mandate anything” on vehicle purchases.

“I live on a dirt road, nowhere near a charging station, so I don’t own an electric car,” Slotkin said in the campaign ad. “No one should tell us what to buy.”
