EDF will also spend £800 million refurbishing Sizewell B over the next 15 years.

LONDON — The government has struck a deal with operators EDF to extend the lifespan of Sizewell B, ensuring the U.K.’s biggest nuclear power plant stays online until 2055.

The Suffolk power plant was due to shut down in 2035. It powers 2.5 million homes, providing 1.2 gigawatts of power to the U.K.’s grid.

Ministers announced a deal Wednesday for a new Contracts for Difference arrangement, guaranteeing EDF future revenues priced at £70.50 per megawatt-hour in 2025 prices. EDF will also spend £800 million refurbishing the power station over the next 15 years.
