The full House won’t consider the surface reauthorization bill in July, kicking a floor vote on the legislation until after Congress’ August break, House Transportation Chair Sam Graves said Wednesday.

“We’ll have to get through recess. We’re not gonna be able to do it until September,” Graves (R-Mo.) told POLITICO in an interview.

Capitol Hill faces a Sept. 30 deadline to re-up lapsing surface authorities. Graves earlier this week said an extension will “probably” be needed.

Graves spoke Wednesday at a Republican Study Committee lunch, giving lawmakers an overview of the bill and working to drum up support. T&I in May approved its part of the legislation by a wide bipartisan margin.
