Green energy seeks new allies: GOP lobbyists

With Republicans in control of the federal government, many energy interests are casting about for friends.

With many advocates in Washington worried about the future of renewable energy under unified Republican control, energy firms are looking to GOP-led lobby shops to help them out.

More than a dozen energy companies and associations have tapped Republican lobbyists in the weeks since Election Day, disclosures show. And while many of the companies are in clean energy, a number of fossil fuel interests are also signing with Republicans.

The deals come as the green energy sector prepares to defend the Inflation Reduction Act and other Democratic policies against attacks from Republicans and President Donald Trump. The GOP is combing through laws enacted during the Biden era as part of an effort to roll back policies like tax incentives for zero-emission energy.

Hiring Republican-led firms, with connections to lawmakers and the new administration, can help show Trump and the GOP that companies can be allies, an energy company official said.
