Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick secured endorsements from the NRDC Action Fund and League of Conservation Voters Action Fund.
It marks the first time the NRDC Action Fund, affiliated with the Natural Resources Defense Council, formally endorsed a GOP candidate, said Denis Dison, a spokesperson for the group. Fitzpatrick is running for his sixth term in Congress, where he has cut a moderate profile even as the Republican Party drifted further right.
“Congressman Fitzpatrick has repeatedly stood up to both the Trump White House and Republican leaders in Congress to defend his constituents against the polluter lobby,” Jed Ober, managing director of the NRDC Action Fund, said in a statement.
Fitzpatrick said the backing reflected the broad appeal of his push to prevent “forever chemicals” from contaminating drinking water. “America should not have to choose between protecting our environment and building the future,” he said in a statement.
