The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will gather this week to discuss electricity demand following recent government actions meant to boost transmission.
The Tuesday hearing will “examine the opportunities, risks, and challenges associated with growth in demand for electric power in the United States,” according to a release.
While the hearing is being billed as a chance for lawmakers to question grid operators on reliability and affordability, it’s also expected to be a venue for lawmakers to laud or lament a recent landmark rule from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The rule on transmission planning and costs directs grid operators to build out more power lines to spread renewable energy across the country.
