Leaders of the nation’s complex power grid will testify during a House hearing this week to discuss potential reliability challenges in the face of rising energy demand.
The House Energy and Commerce hearing is yet another example of Republicans’ focus on supply and demand in the early days of the 119th Congress. They believe Biden administration climate policies, combined with a surge in demand from operations such as artificial intelligence data centers, are hurtling the nation into a reliability crisis.
“The continued safety and reliability of our electric grid is essential,” said full committee Chair Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) and Energy Subcommittee Chair Bob Latta (R-Ohio.).
“Numerous electric-generating facilities have been prematurely retired in recent years, making it critical that we look for solutions to once again harness and expand the baseload power our communities rely on as new and emerging technologies increase the need.”
