The incoming chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee has pledged to focus on “energy dominance” in leading the panel and plans to push permitting reform and climate rollbacks in the next Congress.
Kentucky Republican Rep. Brett Guthrie was favored by his GOP colleagues over his lone competitor, Rep. Bob Latta (R-Ohio), during a House Republican Steering Committee vote Monday. The full Republican conference still has to ratify the result to confirm his chairmanship Tuesday, but that process is considered a formality. He is set to replace retiring Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.).
“I am humbled and excited to get to work next Congress to deliver on President Trump and House Republicans’ America First agenda,” Guthrie said in a statement. “We must work together to restore America’s energy dominance and lower energy prices.”
Guthrie, 60, currently the chair of the Health Subcommittee, will now have significant sway over energy policy as House Republicans seek a quick start to their agenda in 2025.
