Crowdsourcing regulatory cuts from the public. Firing workers based on their Social Security numbers. Shuttering entire agencies. Hip government-downsizing “merch.”
Those are some of the ideas President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming government-cutting team has floated.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk and wealthy investor Vivek Ramaswamy have been calling for drastic overhauls to the federal government. They’re now in prime positions to make their small-government dreams a reality after Trump announced they’ll be leading a new “Department of Government Efficiency.”
The details of their effort — which is shaping up to be an external advisory committee rather than an actual department — remain murky. But Musk and Ramaswamy have long track records of airing grievances about government regulations and bureaucracy, signaling how they’d like to achieve big cuts if given the chance.
