The House approved popular water infrastructure legislation Monday that aims to eliminate non-flushable wipes from sewer systems.
H.R. 2269, the “Wastewater Infrastructure Pollution Prevention and Environmental Safety (WIPPES) Act,” would require manufacturers to place a “Do Not Flush” label on their packaging. The bill passed by voice vote.
Sponsor Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) called it a “commonsense, bipartisan bill” and underscored the economic implications the measure would have.
“This legislation isn’t just about preventing clogged pipes, it’s about protecting taxpayer dollars and ensuring our infrastructure can last for years to come,” McClain said during floor debate.
