The House approved legislation Wednesday that would repeal energy efficiency programs from the Inflation Reduction Act, the Democrats’ 2022 landmark climate law.

The “Homeowner Energy Freedom Act,” H.R. 4758 from Rep. Craig Goldman (R-Texas), would scrap efforts to help low- and middle-income households make home improvements that save energy.

“These green energy regulations fail to lower utility costs and increase overall costs of new homes,” Goldman said during floor debate. “This bill restores Americans’ freedom to make their own choices in their own homes.”

The bill passed 210-199 with only Republican support. One Democrat, Don Davis of North Carolina, voted present.
