The House on Thursday passed two high-profile natural resource bills that could increase the footprint of mining projects on public land and remove federal protections for gray wolves.

Both measures passed the Republican-controlled chamber with at least some bipartisan support following periodically heated debate.

Lawmakers voted 219-198 to approve an amended version of H.R. 1366, the “Mining Regulatory Clarity Act,” from Nevada Reps. Mark Amodei, a Republican, and Steven Horsford, a Democrat.

Nine Democrats voted to advance the bill, while one Republican voted in opposition. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) often votes with a majority of Democrats on environmental matters.
