The House approved legislation Monday to address safety concerns with lithium-ion batteries used in small vehicles like scooters.

H.R. 973, the “Setting Consumer Standards for Lithium-Ion Batteries Act,” from Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) and a bipartisan group of co-sponsors, passed 365-42.

The bill, in response to battery fires, would require the Consumer Product Safety Commission to create a safety standard for the devices.
