The legislation would undo the effects of a 2019 court ruling, which dealt with the disposal of mine waste on federal land.

The House approved legislation Wednesday to address a major concern from the mining industry after a handful of Republicans thwarted passage last week.

Lawmakers cleared H.R. 2925, the “Mining Regulatory Clarity Act,” from Reps. Mark Amodei (R-Nev.) and Mary Peltola (D-Alaska), which would make sure mining companies can store waste on land that doesn’t have economically recoverable minerals.

Republicans and some Democrats backing the legislation say it’s critical to reversing a 2019 court ruling, which concerned the Rosemont copper venture in Arizona.
