The House will consider more than 50 amendments to Republicans’ fiscal 2027 Energy-Water bill before it comes up for a vote this week — but not any of the energy affordability amendments Democrats had introduced.
The Rules Committee approved for debate a host of proposals that would tweak the $58.5 billion legislation, in some cases by transferring funds from one Department of Energy account to another.
Democrats had submitted multiple messaging amendments that would encourage DOE to study the potential impacts of Republican policies on Americans’ energy bills. None of them were approved for debate, prompting criticism from Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.), the ranking member on the Rules panel.
“The Energy and Water bill before us cuts clean energy, grid improvements and energy research while families are crushed under energy bills and gas prices,” McGovern said. “Republicans will call it fiscal responsibility while families see even higher costs.”
