House committee passes Outdoors Act reauthorization

Both the House and Senate are racing to finalize a bill in the coming weeks.

The House Natural Resources Committee approved legislation Wednesday to reauthorize expired portions of the 2020 Great American Outdoors Act.

The panel’s approval sets the House on course to potentially vote on the reauthorization plan, H.R. 9250, ahead of a self-imposed July 4 deadline.

The bill, led by Natural Resources Chair Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) and ranking member Jared Huffman (D-Calif.), passed by voice vote with overwhelming bipartisan support.

It would extend and revamp the Legacy Restoration Fund, which addresses a lengthy and persistent backlog of repairs at the National Park Service and other public lands.
