A House Democrat warning of a “political purge” of federal workers wants copies of agencies’ forthcoming plans for layoffs and reorganizations.

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), the top Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, sent letters to the heads of two dozen agencies Monday requesting that the agencies send their plans to the committee when they send them to the Trump administration.

The administration directed agencies to send their “Phase 1” layoff and reorganization plans to the White House Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Personnel Management by March 13. A Feb. 26 memo sent to agencies directed those plans to “focus on initial agency cuts and reductions,” laying out directions for additional “Phase 2” plans due April 14.

Federal employees concerned about their job security and President Donald Trump’s critics in Congress are awaiting the details of those plans, which the administration is billing as part of its broader effort to eliminate “waste” and “bloat” in the government.
