The top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee wants Elon Musk to testify at an upcoming congressional committee hearing on “rightsizing government.”
After a chaotic few weeks during which Musk has exerted a substantial role in transforming the federal bureaucracy — and challenging existing norms — ranking member Gerald Connolly (D-Va.) asked Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) in a letter to invite Musk to appear as a witness at a Wednesday hearing to “examine the dramatic growth in the size and complexity of the federal government, which has led to excess costs and duplicative and inefficient services for the American people.”
But the chances for a Musk appearance on Capitol Hill this week are slim. A House Oversight spokesperson shot back that Democrats could have called Musk to testify on their own and instead they called a professor as their expert witness.
“Today’s letter from the Democrats is just another desperate stunt, fueled by their ongoing Trump Derangement Syndrome,” the spokesperson said.
