Bipartisan bills focused on nuclear energy and the growing impacts of artificial intelligence breezed through the House Science, Space and Technology Committee on Wednesday.
And in the House Homeland Security Committee, lawmakers approved legislation to secure pipelines from cyberthreats and other attacks.
The Science Committee kicked off its markup by quickly advancing H.R. 9720, the “AI Incident Reporting and Security Enhancement Act,” from Rep. Deborah Ross (D-N.C.).
The bill would require the National Institute of Standards and Technology to modernize its vulnerability database to include newer threats to AI systems. It would also mandate a study on the usefulness of voluntary reporting requirements for “substantial” AI safety issues.
