Texas Republican Rep. Brian Babin is on track to be the next chair of the Science, Space and Technology Committee.

Babin, first elected in 2014, was the only candidate for the role. The GOP’s Steering Committee officially selected him for it Monday, and the full House Republican Conference is expected to confirm the pick.

Babin’s Houston-area district includes NASA’s Johnson Space Center, the headquarters of the nation’s human space flight operations. He currently chairs the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee and has pushed for the U.S. to send humans to the Moon and Mars.
