The House Science, Space and Technology Committee will explore technological innovation in ocean-based industries at a Wednesday hearing, with an emphasis on public-private partnerships.
The meeting will examine the “environmental, economic, and national security implications of ocean research and innovation, including advancements in mapping, surveying and the future of the field,” the panel said.
Chair Brian Babin (R-Texas) said in a statement the hearing “is critical to America’s future as it explores cutting-edge technologies that drive economic growth, strengthen national security, and protect our natural resources. By fostering public-private partnerships, we will ensure that the United States leads the world in ocean research and technological innovation.”
Ocean-based industries — including marine transportation, offshore energy, ocean exploration, sustainable fisheries, aquaculture and recreation — are known as the “blue economy.”
