Two House lawmakers are launching a new caucus focused on weather forecasting and research with an eye toward addressing natural disasters.
The bipartisan duo — Reps. Mike Flood (R-Neb.) and Eric Sorensen (D-Ill.) — announced Wednesday the creation of the Weather Enterprise Caucus, named in reference to the weather enterprise industry, which includes forecasting, research and disaster preparedness efforts.
The pair said the caucus will educate lawmakers “about all things weather forecasting and research — in particular the economic, societal, and national security value of the United States Weather Enterprise.”
“We want Congress to better understand the incredible work that’s being done all across the weather enterprise, and the critical role that it plays in the public safety of Americans,” said Sorensen, a former television meteorologist.
