Two recycling bills are among numerous measures scheduled for a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee hearing focused on protecting customers.
The Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade will weigh legislation for national standards on recycling, composting and recycled-content claims.
“This hearing will give us the opportunity to examine legislation that empowers consumers, combats unfair and deceptive practices, and advances safety,” said committee Chair Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) and subcommittee Chair Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.).
The Packaging and Claims Knowledge (PACK) Act, H.R. 6832, led by Rep. Randy Weber (R-Texas), would establish the first nationwide definitions for “recyclable” and “compostable” and charge the Federal Trade Commission with enforcement against deceptive claims. As of Friday, it had 17 co-sponsors, all of whom are Republicans except for Rep. Adam Gray (D-Calif.).
