The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee released its bipartisan 2024 Water Resources Development Act on Monday, as leaders in both chambers aim to swiftly advance their measures before election-year politics grind legislative work to a halt.
Both chambers are pushing slimmed-down, bipartisan WRDA bills this year, aiming to keep the measures narrowly focused on Army Corps of Engineers projects like harbors, locks, dams and ecosystem restoration projects and eschewing efforts to include policy changes at EPA or other agencies.
“Congress’ regular passage of WRDA legislation provides economic benefits throughout the United States, and this bill includes provisions to deliver infrastructure projects faster, strengthen our supply chain, and increase accountability at the Corps,” T&I Chair Sam Graves (R-Mo.) said in a statement.
The House bill, which committee leaders plan to introduce tomorrow, would authorize construction of 12 new Army Corps projects as well as feasibility research for 159 community-proposed projects.
