A House Energy and Commerce subcommittee advanced a slate of bills Wednesday aimed at rolling back Biden-era energy efficiency regulations, amid a broader partisan dispute over soaring energy prices.

The Energy Subcommittee passed seven Republican bills that encapsulate the party’s monthslong message that “over-the-top” efficiency rules are driving up costs and limiting consumer choice.

“Over the last several months, the subcommittee has held hearings examining building and appliance policies that have driven up prices for consumers,” full committee Chair Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) said. “It seems that regulations, and then more regulations, was the philosophy of the last administration.”

The bills ranged from curbing state bans on energy sources such as natural gas to codifying rules on showerheads. Most passed along party lines.
