The House Natural Resources Committee will mark up two hot-button bills this week: One to remove Endangered Species Act protections for the gray wolf and another to rename the Gulf of Mexico in statute.

Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-Colo.) H.R. 845, the “Pet and Livestock Protection Act,” would not only delist the gray wolf as an endangered or threatened species but also block the courts from weighing in on the matter.

Republicans in Western states have complained bitterly over the gray wolf, which went nearly extinct in the 1960s but has made a comeback in recent years.
