The House approved a bill Monday allowing an Arizona county to buy 3,400 acres of federal land for solar energy and economic development.

The bill, H.R. 1043, passed by voice vote under suspension of the rules, a fast-track procedure for typically noncontroversial legislation.

The “La Paz County Solar Energy and Job Creation Act” would direct Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to sell 3,400 acres of Bureau of Land Management land to the western Arizona county. The county would primarily use the land to develop solar energy projects.

“At a time when Congress is exploring all opportunities for cost savings, the possible energy and job development acts as a win-win,” said Arizona GOP Rep. Paul Gosar, the bill’s sponsor.
