A House subcommittee will meet this week to consider reforms to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, a body that the White House and congressional Republicans have deemed inefficient.
The hearing comes as President Donald Trump has walked back threats to shutter the agency, which oversees federal recovery efforts that follow natural disasters.
Although Trump said in January that he was considering dismantling FEMA, a White House executive order last week took a more reform-minded approach.
House Republicans appear to be on the same page. On Tuesday, the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management will convene for a hearing titled “Reforming FEMA.”
