The House is set to leave Washington as soon as Wednesday afternoon, departing for a scheduled six-week recess earlier than planned as a major storm barrels toward the Gulf Coast.

Lawmakers will vote Wednesday on a three-month extension of government funding — which does not include supplemental disaster relief funding beyond a short-term spending authorization — and send it to the Senate before heading back to their districts.

The Senate may cut its week short, too, after securing a bipartisan agreement to quickly send the funding stopgap to President Joe Biden’s desk.
