The House will vote this week on legislation to protect the practice of hydraulic fracturing for oil and gas drilling.

House Republicans prepared the bill for floor debate as soon as they opened the chamber for business earlier this year. It was part of the party’s rules package for the new Congress.

H.R. 26, the “Protecting American Energy Production Act,” from Texas Republican August Pfluger, would prevent the president from declaring a moratorium on fracking.

The bill also says, “It is the sense of Congress that States should maintain primacy for the regulation of hydraulic fracturing for oil and natural gas production on State and private lands.”
