House Energy and Commerce lawmakers are taking up another batch of bills to overhaul parts of the Clean Air Act, this time focusing on mobile sources of pollution.
The Environment Subcommittee agenda includes bills that would prevent rulemaking to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles and legislation targeting more specific complaints, such as bus idling penalties and slow-pouring gas cans.
The legislation under consideration this week is part of the Republicans’ de-regulatory agenda and as well as the party’s long-standing desire to change large portions of the Clean Air Act.
“Actions by the Biden-Harris Administration and states like California have taken away consumer choices and driven up costs to advance a radical environmental agenda instead of focusing on responsible environmental policies that complement lower costs and innovation,” Energy and Commerce Chair Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) and subcommittee Chair Gary Palmer (R-Ala.) said in a statement.
