House leaders want a budget blueprint to clear committee next week as a first step toward drafting a major party-line bill on energy, immigration, taxes and other agenda items.

Several House Republicans met with President Donald Trump for several at the White House on Thursday to settle intraparty spending disagreements. The talks will continue, Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters.

“The idea would be to get the Budget Committee working potentially as early as early next week, maybe Tuesday, for a markup of the budget resolution,” Johnson said.

The fiscal blueprint will then give committees instructions to craft a budget reconciliation bill that can pass the Senate by simple majority. Republican targets include more oil and gas drilling, and cuts to climate spending.
