Democratic lawmakers are pushing a trio of bills that would fund projects and studies to combat extreme heat.
Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.) introduced House versions of the three bills Wednesday. All had previously been introduced in the Senate.
“Together, these pieces of legislation would deliver the federal funding, structure, and information communities need to protect residents and respond to extreme heat events,” Ansari said in a news release.
The “Excess Urban Heat Mitigation Act” would create a new grant program for communities to implement heat mitigation projects, such as cooling centers or new tree planting. A Senate version of the bill, S. 1166, was introduced in March by Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.).
