The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will mark up bipartisan legislation this week to improve the nation’s water infrastructure.
The panels will consider their respective Water Resources Development Act proposals, biennial legislation that directs the Army Corps of Engineers’ management of water resources.
The Senate is poised to unveil its offering this week. The House’s proposal, released in recent weeks, would authorize hundreds of new studies on water issues nationwide, from failing sewer systems to coastal erosion.
This year’s House WRDA is light on new projects, with only four new authorizations included. The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee was set to mark it up earlier this month but postponed the session.
