The House is planning to take up legislation this week related to public utilities and disaster relief, all of which passed the chamber during the last Congress but failed to become law.

The bipartisan bills come from the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and will be considered under suspension of the rules, a mechanism to fast track legislation with widespread support.

H.R 144, the “Tennessee Valley Authority Salary Transparency Act,” from Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), would restore certain reporting and disclosure requirements for executives and upper-level employees at the electric authority. President-elect Donald Trump has expressed concerns about salaries at the TVA, which is federally owned.

The House approved an earlier version of the bill in March 2024, but it was not taken up by the Senate.
