The House this week will consider a host of amendments to fiscal 2026 spending legislation funding the Department of Energy and Army Corps of Engineers — including measures to bolster fossil fuels, disaster resilience and eliminate key renewable energy programs.
The action comes as House and Senate leaders from both parties spar over how to prevent a partial federal government shutdown at the end of the month.
The House Rules Committee considered more than 100 lawmaker proposals for House Republicans’ 2026 Energy-Water spending bill Tuesday and ultimately made in order for debate more than 30 amendments. The House could begin debating and voting on those amendment as soon as Wednesday.
The bill would appropriate $57.3 billion in discretionary funding for DOE, the Army Corp of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation — about $766 million below the currently enacted level.
