The House plans to fast-track legislation this week to address wildfire mitigation concerns, public land drilling permits and conservation of bodies of water in the Pacific Northwest.

H.R. 3922, the “Cross-Boundary Wildfire Solutions Act,” from Reps. Joe Neguse (D-Colo.) and Young Kim (R-Calif.), would have the Government Accountability Office review programs or rules that may either enable or hamper wildfire mitigation across federal and nonfederal lands. The bill passed the Natural Resources Committee by voice vote in February.

“The Cross-Boundary Wildfire Solutions Act closes gaps in current federal rules and regulations to enhance the capacity to mitigate wildfire risk, reduce the frequency and severity of wildfires, and protect vulnerable communities,” Neguse said in a statement about the bill.

Also on the House agenda this week is H.R. 7831, from Rep. Mike Kennedy (R-Utah), the “License to Drill Act,” which would reauthorize a Bureau of Land Management fee program for drilling permit applications.
