The House approved legislation on Tuesday that would make it easier for companies to sell high-volume showerheads.

The “Saving Homeowners from Overregulation With Exceptional Rinsing (SHOWER) Act,” H.R. 4593, passed on a 226 to 197 vote, with 11 Democrats joining all Republicans in backing it.

The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Russell Fry (R-S.C.), would codify the Department of Energy’s action last year, under President Donald Trump’s direction, that effectively declared that in multi-head shower appliances, each individual unit could hit the 2.5-gallon-per-minute water use standard. The Biden administration had previously said the standard applies to the appliance as a whole.

House Republicans had planned to vote on the “SHOWER Act” last week, but delayed the final vote. It was unclear why, but the GOP may not have had enough members to pass the legislation at the time.
