Reps. Jared Huffman of California and Melanie Stansbury of New Mexico are vying to become the next top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee — a race pitting progressive against progressive.

On Tuesday, both Huffman and Stansbury participated in candidate forums with major caucuses within the party, including the moderate New Democrats Coalition and the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Both belong to the latter. Forums will continue Wednesday.

Both touted endorsements from tribal groups Tuesday. Huffman has won endorsements from three former top Democrats on the committee.
