Gov. Mike Braun says state regulators aren’t doing enough to protect ratepayers from rising electricity costs.

When Indiana regulators approved a $71 million electric rate increase for customers of AES Indiana last month, the decision unsurprisingly drew blowback from frustrated customers on social media.

One unhappy voice rose above the others: Gov. Mike Braun.

Immediately following the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission’s order, the Republican governor called the decision “unacceptable” in a statement. He went a step further days later, announcing via social media that he was demoting IURC Chair Andy Zay, whom he tapped for the post six months earlier, and naming Commissioner Anthony Swinger to head the five-member board.
