Wells Griffith, a Department of Energy undersecretary, is no longer on the job, lobbyists and staffers told POLITICO’s E&E News on Tuesday.

Griffith, a veteran of President Donald Trump’s first administration, is on paid time off, the lobbyists and department aides said. They were granted anonymity to speak candidly. Griffith has not been fired, nor has he resigned, they said.

The revelation comes after POLITICO reported last week that DOE leaders and the White House were in conflict over billions of dollars of clean energy grant cuts, some affecting Republican districts.
